Lar. ill. Suppl., s.v. natation). Empr. à l'angl. trudgeon (1893 ds NED), altér. de trudgen, abrév. de l'expr. Trudgen stroke désignant un mouvement de nage introd. par le Britannique John Trudgen qui l'aurait empr. aux Sud-Américains lors d'un voyage à Buenos Aires en 1863 (NED).
